Why FarFrom?

A step-by-step guide to
immersive travel experiences

Using FarFrom is simple. You contribute a few hours of your time to support a host's project, and as part of that experience, you're welcomed as a guest, with a place to stay included, whether that's a private room, an annexe, or even a spot to park up your campervan with access to onsite facilities.

1

Understand how FarFrom works.

It's a simple idea that's been around for decades: you contribute a few hours of your time each day to support a host's project; whether that's gardening, animal care, or general maintenance. As part of the experience, your host provides a place to stay.

It's not about working for free. It's about genuine exchange. You bring your time, skills, and enthusiasm; hosts welcome you into their world and often much more; meals, local knowledge, and real connection.

Discover experiences you won't find elsewhere.

FarFrom connects you with unique properties that aren't found anywhere else. From working farms with lambs and alpacas to stately homes and countryside estates; these are places that welcome travellers who want to help.

Once you've found somewhere you like, message the host for more info and request to book. A per-stay fee applies; £35 for those travelling on their own, £45 for those travelling together. Regardless of how long the stay is, this is just a one-off booking fee per stay.

3

Arrive, contribute and enjoy.

Once accepted, you'll coordinate your arrival directly with your host. When you get there, they'll show you around and walk you through how you can help. Most travellers contribute in the mornings, leaving afternoons and evenings free to explore.

This isn't just about travelling on a budget; it's about experiences you'd never have as a regular tourist. You'll pick up new skills, meet interesting people, and discover parts of the world most visitors never see.

FAQs

See our Frequently Asked Questions to answer anything you want to know about how work-for-accommodation works, and whether it's the right fit for you.

No prior experience is required for most positions. Hosts value enthusiasm, reliability, and a willingness to learn. Each listing clearly states what skills are helpful, but many tasks can be taught on arrival.

Most hosts expect around 3 hours of help per day, typically 5 days per week. This leaves plenty of time to explore the area, relax, or pursue your own interests. Exact hours are agreed with your host before you arrive.

This varies by host. Some provide all meals, others offer breakfast essentials and kitchen access for you to cook your own meals. Each listing clearly states what's included so you can plan accordingly.

Stays typically range from one week to several months. The minimum and maximum stay length is set by each host and shown on their listing. Longer stays often lead to deeper connections and more meaningful experiences.

Good communication is key. If issues arise, speak openly with your host first. Our platform has a support team available to help mediate if needed. You're never obligated to stay somewhere you're uncomfortable.
